fey mood glassworker, what do?

ok so what building does he need to claim, and how the hell do i acquire sand?

Either craftsdorf shop, or a glass furnace.


Sand is collected by having empty bags, a glass furnace, AND a glass furnace operator. 1) Use Zones to designate a sand collection zone 2) Order a glass furnace to collect sand. Your operator, your glass maker that is, will get a bag, go to the zone, wait a while, and drop off a bag of sand that can be turned into one glob of green glass.

ok so i have everything and mood can claim now.... still has not claimed a workshop.... ok so can i assign a wardog to them to kill them later or should i post guards near the prick...

If he hasn't claimed a workshop, then you don't have the workshop he wants built yet.  I ran into this on dwarves sometimes...they wanted a workshop for a skill they didn't have.  It's rare, but I guess it can happen.  Just keep building the other workshops until he claims one.  Bowyer, Clothesmaking, Leatherworking, etc...all end-product stuff.

checked the fact that glassmakers/metalsmiths may be choosy between magma shops and normal ones? build either ones in any case

hint: always bring 1-3 sand on embark (1 part of each for 1 point  .. gives a free bag as well) so in case of  a mood you can build a  workshop with a free dwarf and build few glass so the moody dwarf can actually get to work

no i have them all that isn't the problem.

I looked at the wiki again. I need a non-magma glass furnace.

so yeah there's a tip for any who are in my situation.

Yeah this is a frustrating little bug, the various metalworker moods are compatible with magma forges but glassworker is not.  If I have magma glass furnaces constructed, I keep one fuel-burner type built but forbidden, to prevent it from consuming fuel when jobs are assigned by the manager; and just un-forbid it when a glassworker needs it available for a mood.

I also discovered that it pays to have 2 glassworking workshops if you have no magma ones. Glassworkers will often demand glass itself, so you need to be able to create some quickly in a secondary workshop to supply to the now unusable primary shop.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
