Keeping Cats out of Trouble
« on: October 22, 2010, 02:28:01 am »

To get some Urists McRambo, I tried the "Danger Room" idea with the wooden training spear traps and the repeating lever. OK, this improves the dwarves, but it tends to be bad for cats and kittens.

I locked the door of the danger room for pets, but they still seem to pass through (maybe when a dwarf enters or leaves).

Unfortunately, the spikes maimed several cats so far, including a bunch of which had adopted my broker (he still has more than a dozend of them!). No need to say that his mood went down the drain...

How can I keep the cats out of the danger room?

I fall into a strange mood. I withdraw from society. I claim a computer. I draw pictures of bedrooms. I draw pictures of farming levels. I draw pictures of defenses. I draw pictures of pipes and pumps. I start playing Dwarf Fortress!

Try double or triple pet non-passible doors.

But really, the best way to contain cats is to cage them before they can adopt your dwarves.

Seems like you are suffering from a CATSPLOSION. Why wouldn't you want them dead? If you are concerned for your dwarves mood all you need to do is put that particular dwarf on idle for a while, he will get back up to happy at least then start again until all his nasty cuddly demons cats are dead eternally resting.

One of the dwarfs walked in front of Thor to get a better view of the prye, and Thor kicked him irritably into the middle of the flames, which made Thor feel slightly better and made all the dwarfs feel much worse.

Yeah, I think killing cats is, aside from the rediculous training danger rooms give, pretty much the biggest pre of danger rooms :)

No pet owners allowed in danger room and at least triple doors with some intervals, is what does the trick for me. Also for mayors and other nobles who have liaisons following them, the danger room is a potential bloodbath for the liaisons. Not that it's necessarily a bad thing.

Edit: Has anyone here trained adult elephants in danger room? Seems they can take it. Any other pets that can take danger rooms?
I would test myself more, but my last game started crashing repeatedly...

Engraved on the monitor is an exceptionally designed image of FPS in Dwarf Fortress and it's multicore support by Toady. Toady is raising the multicore. The artwork relates to the masterful multicore support by Toady for the Dwarf Fortress in midwinter of 2010. Toady is surrounded by dwarves. The dwarves are rejoicing.
