Aurora's not that hard. DF had a learning curve of about a week, Aurora's about the same. But Aurora doesn't quite pull me in the same way that DF does. You don't really get too many surprises from Aurora, it's more like a simulation, no funny stuff like tantrum spirals, accidentally flooding your fortress, seeing a horse kick a guy off a cliff.

Aurora has mass drivers launching 5000 tons of minerals from mars at the earth and the mass driver on the earth not actually existing and having the entire population of the earth nearly die instead of horses kicking dwarves off cliffs into magma....

I prefer Aurora's version better.

Also Aurora has random wormholes opening up on your systems and depositing aliens sorta like goblins but meaner and bigger.

My only problem with Aurora is that it seems there's no being a huge late-game empire sending out a fleet of 50 amazing ships and trying to beat the crap out of those ancient alien races.

That's the equivalent of accidentally flooding your fort in DF :P

But unlike DF, it doesn't seem as fun if you lose.

back in 2D i once set my entire fortress to be engraved.  Almost killed my pc  but it looked cool blinking.

Then again, I consider Infinity to be overly ambitious, something that might easily spell it's downfall.
