umm i hope everyone knows that the guys developing New Vegas also made fallout 1 and 2.

Pretty sure every single person here knows that and that is why it hasn't been brought up. It's common knowledge. I also don't see where it is relevant :P
Well people are dissing the old games and assume that Vegas will be Fallout 3. Vegas was based off Black Isle's failed Fallout 3 project which now they have a chance to revive.

They still have our old good Bethesda which considers "this shouldn't be in because we feel like it" and prefers old rails to new stuff, so I was not impressed at all. The influence of the old fallout was seen at a few places, but still stupid settlements and all old stuff is in. I don't think I will buy Vegas because after I looked at Play Nows I didn't feel like I get a new game I miss, but maybe I will pick it up later.

And I hope those guys from Black Isle still work with Bethesda, they deserve a good job :).

Plus I don't consider them working with Beth as something revolutional. Fallout 1/2 were old school rpg, they were good at that, but they've never made a new FPS-RPG so they are only good as lore/content assistants, not general designers.

Well the Designers did admit they can add more stuff with the Gamebryo. also they work for Obsidian Entertainment.

Actually the only thing that turns me off about NV is the legion design. They look like young reconstructors in their roman armor... I could dig if they were guys in practical armor who follow the doctrine which is based on roman society, but the unusual armor which looks funny and doesn't protect legs... I do not dig it. It's kinda silly.

I don't say that it's impossible, they can be just fanatics or a cult, but still it's too far from the "wasteland/fallout" theme for me.

I have absolutely no idea what's going on in this fort any more. Migrants arrive, they die for some reason, the fort is flooded for another reason, then dwarves go mad, more dwarves die and I'm just laughing in my distress.

Who forgot about that? I won't speak for everyone, but for example I said that I've modded it to death, thus Fallout: NV looks like a modded Fallout 3 (all the "hardcore mode" settings are present in FWE and are more elegant there).

My bethsoft folder has two games in it (Daggerfall and such are elsewhere for some reason). It clocks in at 42 GB with all the mods for Fallout and Oblivion.

Similar story here. I couldn't stand to play vanilla after getting a taste of mods; making the game "better" (in my opinion, with rebalance and overhaul mods like OOO and FOOK2) than Bethesda would dare, otherwise it might be hard or offer too many choices for people (resulting in their head exploding or less people buying their game or something).

So is NV going to have alot of ideas from the failed F3 Van Buren thing?

I think it'd be interesting to see if the Brotherhood dominate everything when they start distributing pure water from the purifier. I love being a badass with FO3+FOOK2. Several types of minigun plus ion and plasma miniguns ftw.

I liked the sniper rifle additions... making every bullet count out of VATS was fun. Also, smaller yet powerful guns were great too; not everything has to be 100 pounds just to blow someone apart.

Brotherhood, Enclave and supermutants play almost no role in FO:NV. Brotherhood is small, enclave does not care and mutants are far away. You basically solve local conflicts, with the major one in a form of dudes without pants (romans).

P.S. You know what, I think I will just replace the roman armor with some which looks LIKE it but has a wasteland feel, I am sure there will be mod like that, and suddenly the game will be much more atmospheric for me :).

What about the mutated GECK? Is that still in?

Chris Avellone sez: Faction and place names are borrowed from Van Buren but their contexts are very different 10 years later.
