Apparently, the wells are poisoned now too.  Actually, there's just extract on - or around - the tiles the dwarf would use to access them, but that's beside the point.

The extract is on the ground specifically because those are the places to access the well.  The dwarves are washing themselves, which should help save them.  Now, you just to clean up the extract on the ground, and deal with the rest of the sources before there are new contaminations, and you're on the road to recovery.

Aside from the siege.

If you have a well and dwarfs with cleaning labors assigned, all of that happens automatically.  Simply, you have to wait it out.  FB syndromes are random and so can either be benign or nasty.  Since there isn't any true communicability, as long as everyone can keep clean, you should be fine.  Shitty soap functioning makes that harder (they try to eat it instead of wash themselves with it), but in more hopeful news, it also makes it simpler to deal with.  That is, just wait to see how many die, basically.

Fighting FBs instead of caving the caverns in on them or drowning them in magma is a crapshoot for your fortress and military.

I remember when random syndromes for FBs first came out.  Everyone was so chuffed about how they slaughtered the FBs and everything was good, then we'd never heard stories about that fort again.  Now people are coming out of the closet with their stories about horrific fates at the hands of the unseen enemy.

FBs are dangerous, especially without any form of medicine with which to treat syndromes.  Hacking off infected limbs or having your hospital be a tuberculosis sanitarium isn't a real solution, no matter how dwarvenly prophylactic amputation it may be.
