Aquifer handling
« on: October 14, 2010, 07:50:00 pm »

I've never tried an aquifer map before, and I accidently embarked without any stone... but that's besides the point.

I've got a 3 layer aquifer, two layers of sand, and one of stone.  What's the best/easiest/least Fun way to get through it?  I have plenty of wood to use.

I think pumps are probably the best way to get around it, or exploring for a mineral seam as they don't act as aquifiers.

There are some complex methods for getting a shaft down through many levels of aquifer. Use the search feature to get at those~

I posted some basic instructions with screenshots on how to punch through multiple layer aquifers via the 'concentric collapse' method in the following thread: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=64625.msg1514808#msg1514808
