Lazy Bastards Don't Harvest
« on: November 03, 2007, 10:43:00 pm »

So, I've got 8 plump helmets rotting in the feilds and 11 idlers and I've checked to make sure that "all dwarves harvest" is set.

They don't move.

I set two of them to Farming(feilds) and they move off to plant seeds!

That's exactly what that job does.  Fields farming only lets them plant the seeds and allows them to actively train the growing skill.  The whole harvesting thing is handled by the options menu(all dwarves/only farmers).

Do you have a food stockpile?  They might just not be moving them.

I have a food stockpile and "all dwarves harvest."

They did eventually come take the shrooms away, but I'm certain at least one of them was eaten right there on the farm.

Happened to me when I ran out of stockpile space, could it have been that?

I've gotten a general sense that dwarves are a lot more lethargic about harvesting plants in the new versions, too.  Still, this might be something that has to wait until job priorities are in, so that time-sensitive jobs such as harvesting can be automatically prioritized.
