Don't forget it's made by a completely different team to the first three.

Oh good, maybe they won't eff it up like the original team did with Gothic 3 :P

Edit: first review I find by a not-well-known-enough-to-be-bribed site says it's very shallow compared to dragon age and oblivion. That doesn't bode well

The reviews aren't wonderful.

I never played 3 but I did play risen by the same team which, despite it's flaws, was one of the more fun rpgs I have played. I'm looking forward to the sequel for that.

Gothic 4 I am waiting for others to tell me what they think ;)

For a PC RPG, the game is rather nice.  I've been playing the Multi5 version of it for several days now. Its alot more linear than the previous Gothic games, while the skill tree is just marginally better than that of Risen (which I hated for the whole warrior OR mage deal).  The game world is huge, but you move from one area to another, and none of teh gates are interconnected to the other, only tied up in pairs; which sucks, bad.

The fighting mechanics, on the other hand, is rather nifty.  Player skill-based, instead of just point and click.  If you see a big attack coming, the enemy will puff up and glow, then you gotta get out of the way, or its going to hurt.  You can have near-misses or be able to block, but you either have to block the attack outright or roll out of the way.

I'm not terribly far into the game, but there is a massive variety to the quests so far, which is good.  Although it is mostly running around, killing things.  :P

I've only played enough to get off the training island, and so far it seems like a pretty generic CRPG. I've not played any of the other Gothic games, but it's definatly shallow compared to oblivion and the like. It seems like the level-up system is extremely weak (I'm assuming that the skill tree you see at the start is all you get).

One thing I will say: This game is unintentionally comedic gold. The winning combination of badly translated dialouge being acted by people that were apparently given each line seperately and devoid of context had me in fits of laughter. Characters seem to wildly change emotions from one sentance to the next.

For me it's not better than Gothic II, and pretty linear. And the combat system is rather weird: "click your enemy to death."

But still it's not bad :).

Linear turns me off and doesn't sound like a "Gothic" game at all.

Played through the demo.

Immediate response is: "Crap". The storyline made me gag with its banality.
