It was granite layer Urist, though there was alot of Bauxite in the layer, and I think, not 100% on this, that the gems where in the Bauxite parts of it.

I found a ton of rubies, sapphires, and the star versions of each in a Granite layer of a cold enviroment.

Bauxite is the one which has a lot of sapphires and rubies.
Hey, blame the raws, not me.

It says sapphire and ruby only occurs in Bauxite/

And that would be true. I've never found either it anywhere else. There was also some less valuable gemstone in bauxite that I find regularly...

Just in the first couple of Gabbro layers in my game I found enough gems, hematite, gold, and silver I nearly bought the first caravan out just with the crafts I made (also leveled up my metalworkers quite nicely).

Okay that wasn't in Gabbro but I always get maps that are absolutely swimming in hematite veins so they often cross into other layers.
