Armor layering
« on: October 09, 2010, 09:11:48 pm »

Can someone explain how to do this, step by step? I'm clearly not getting it, as every time I do it he ends up unequipping his breastplate and running around with no armor, or wearing two mail shirts or something.

Clothing, leather equipment, metal armor

Does that mean the default metal armor set will layer automatically? or that only leather equipment will layer under metal armor?

I've tried just adding a mail shirt to the list, but that causes issues above. I've toggled the "Replace clothing/over clothing" option too, and that doesn't seem to help much.

What I do is modify the "metal armor" uniform to:

Code: [Select]
metal mail shirt
metal breastplate
cloak
metal headwear
metal legwear
metal gauntlets
gloves
metal high boots
metal high boots
metal shields/bucklers
indiv choice, melee

Then use Shift+Enter under m - e - U to assign the changed uniform to a whole squad.  This seems to ensure that my dwarves have at least ONE thing on each hand and foot, even when they decide to skip a boot or a gauntlet inexplicably.

Okay, and last question, I promise, what exactly does the "Over clothing/Replace clothing" do?

Does it mean they wear stuff over clothing ,or that they will wear stuff over anything it can be worn over?

over clothing means they will just put on their clothes normally
replace clothing means they take off all their clothes first then put on the armor

If you put it to over clothing then you can layer cap/helmet and mail shirt/breastplate, glove/gauntlet.
