My First 'Fun' Attack
« on: October 09, 2010, 05:36:04 pm »

Well, I am a new poster to Dwarf Fortress, and I finally got a god set-up for my fort. Larger then neccessary farm, good supply harvesting, new gem-cutting business, lots of rooms, even an unprepared Ballista alley, set to kill anything that comes in. All in all, it was good. Now, I walk away to go take care of my pet snake (with the game running, obviously). I come back, and my miner is dead in the bottom of the stairwell I was making. The farmer was killed in the farm. Some other person was dead in the defunct ballista room. A third one was taken down outside. That doesn't count the stray kittens, puppies, etc. that had all been slaughtered.
For some reason, my Woodcutter went beserk, and he is killing everything with his ashen training axe. He has broken a half dozen skulls with various parts of the axe now, breaking the skull and forcing it into the brain. The farmer's cloak was the only thing to stop one of his evil blows. Then, he crushed the pommel into his head, and killed him.
It has something to do with the war-dog restrained at my gate. He started by beating it in the limbs, and ended up (predictably) breaking the skull, forcing it into the brain. It was vomiting and going in and out of consciousness while he did it.

You should honor this heroic woodcutter with his own royal bedroom.

This guy needs to write a biography about Columbus. I would totally buy it.
I can see it now.

Update:
6 Dead dwarves, can't locate the nutjob woodworker.
If only I could kill him with 'Fun'.

On second thought, just reclaim, and as soon as your new dwarves get there, have them start engraving the walls. Hopefully they start carving the legacy of Urist McDwarfChopper.

Update 2:
10 Dead Dwarves from my Fort, and a diplomat dwarf from somewhere else, who I didn't know arrived. I am making lots of coffins.

A total of 12 dead, including the Mad Axeman Sazir Stakudast. I don't know how, but I have over 20 dwarves right now. I only had 15 or so when the rampage started, and that killed 12. Need to get to Engraving some time.

Less then a season had passed. It shocked me. I also got 2 Fey moods since he came. One for an amythest encrusted amythest earring, and another for 'Bentdelights the National Lover' an Iron Short Sword.

Look at the name of the sword. It belongs in 'The Most Erotic Dwarf Artifact Ever' thread.

Axe murderers and crazy fetishistic swordsmiths.

Smells like dwarf fortress.

Well, the Dwarf Fortress 'crumbled to its end'. Turns out they weren't making drinks, and it started a combination tantrum-spiral/widespread death by dehydration. I only realized it when I saw my graveyard had a dozen bodies in it (again).

THAT is when I started getting messages about them being thirsty.

Note to Self: Start near unfreezing water.

Shame, you could have caught Urist McEpicWoodCutter in a cage, and only let him out during a seige.
