What is the maximum length of history that can be generated with Dwarf Fortress crashing? Can I manage to get some obscenely high number, like 100,000 years of history?

That depends on your worldgen. Some worlds only have 500 max years of history, but other ones can have 1500...

You can change the max history to whatever you want when you generate a world.


Anyway, I don't know how high you can go, but it's probably some power of two. Probably 65535 (2^16), because I've heard of at least one person trying a 10,000-year world and 2^32 (four billion and a bit) sounds rather much too large. You might have to edit the worldgen file directly instead of using the in-game menu.
