Exploratory mining idea.
« on: October 08, 2010, 12:39:46 am »

So I just had a thought. Why is there nothing on the exploratory mining page of the wiki to use ramps or channels in conjunction with other mining methods, such as the rows or diagonals, to double the number of squares revealed at once?

I just realized two things. 1. For the Win and F___ the World have the same initials. 2. They have the same meaning in Dwarf Fortress.

I don't think it's especially common knowledge or it's taken for granted that everyone already knows.  I've only seen the topic mentioned once around here, though I haven't been lurking for that long so I could be wrong.

It isn't any more efficient spacewise, only dwarf-timewise (which is questionable: see below).

It's much less efficient player-timewise, since you have to switch between different designation tools.  And keep in mind that dealing with channels is an enormous pain in terms of connectivity.  If your connectivity throws a wobbly, your dwarves will take much longer.

I guess it might be workable?
