They fell unconscious and triggered a cage trap but I can't figure out how to let him out.

Construct it and release the dorf.

How do I find the right cage then? I  have.... I dunno.... 120 cages sitting in stockpiles?

Edit: NVM, just thought of a way.  Distances.

When choosing which cage to construct, press 'x' (expand), one of them should say dwarf cage...that's the one your looking for. After you have built it, 'q' on the cage and desassign the dwarf in there.

Why would you want to release him?! In Eternal Halls succession I actually built a giant knock-out trap specifically to get some dorfs inside cages :)

Pretty sure the game won't let you unassign the dwarf - you'll need to link it to a lever and pull the lever.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Dunk him into "water". That will satiate his thirst.
