no boring artifacts
« on: October 06, 2010, 08:10:03 am »

It is almost minor bug level to have an artifact that has an absolutely boring description like. "a chalk x with bands of diamonds"
every artifact should either have an engraving or at least an extra description.  ("interlocking bands" rather than bands "thin spikes" rather than spikes.)

It's quite disappointing to have Uristmcpeasant gather a billion bones from a hundred slaughtered animals to make a boring artifact and your third legendary bonecrafter.

Bone carvers are bugged. The artifacts they make have no decorations.
As for the suggestion, you can actually have art modifiers for "Covered in", "Rings", "Spikes", etc.
Although, I see what you mean.

I rather dislike the high frequency of engravings... It is like every artifact is a dang history book.

Heck a history book probably would be an artifact in this game.

I've been thinking for a while that it would be a good idea to have a list of parts for each type of thing that can be constructed, and what sorts of materials and decorations make sense for what parts.  That way you can have artifacts that read like:

This is a steel sword.  The hilt is made of goblin bone decorated with bands of gold.  The scabbard is made of giant eagle leather and encrusted with rubies.  There is an image of a dwarf in etched into the blade.

On a non-artifact iron sword, these parts would all be made of the same material.

I imagine artifacts will be more interesting once they are magical. Of course, more Fell Moods would make them more interesting too =].
