Unfortunate accidents and merchants
« on: October 02, 2010, 11:34:05 pm »

A shady merchant just ripped me out of a lot of merchandise and I'm wondering, since the old forbid building bug doesn't seem to work anymore and it won't let me seize goods [which I wouldn't want to do anyway, too obvious], I'm wondering, is it possible that if the merchants were to have an "unfortunate accident" but the goods were left unharmed could I just, y'know, get my stuff back and maybe a little extra for my trouble?

Deconstruct the depot.

Another possibility is setting up spear traps, and pulling the lever as the merchants go by.

hm, if I had fuel I could melt all these metal toys and goblets and stuff for use elsewhere, or I could trade them to the next caravan.  Either way, is it possible to burn wooden toys and scepters and training weapons to make charcoal to use as fuel?

unfortunately no, and people have wanted this for some time now.  I suggest setting up a quick trash compactor next to the depot.  Unless you have zero flux, I wouldn't waste fuel on melting.  Wait until you've gotten magma smelters set up.

While adding magma to anything will make it dwarfy, adding the word "magma" to your post does not necessarily make it funny.

I think you might be able to set up a reaction for something like that, actually, just set it to only use wooden items and produce charcoal and there you go.

does the game consider liquid, gaseous, powdered, and solid forms of the same substance to be different for the purposes of reactions? If so, you could just burn them into ash(i.e. molten wood) and have that solidify into a powder, which could then be used for charcoal production?

the game treats reaction ash (furnace) different from fire ash (!!goblin!!)
