A titan then. Whatever.

I've been collecting bronze colossi so whenever one shows up I want the military dwarves who are normally on routine guard duty to go down into the fort with the civvies so that the colossus can come into my cage traps unmolested. It's easy as pie:

1- set the civilian alert to "clear the surface", which sends them into the set of burrows that encompasses my fort's interior.
2- set my military squads to "inactive" alert status. All my military dwarves instantly become civilians, and so instantly abandon their posts to join the rest down below.

The only thing I really miss about the old military command system is the ability to tell dwarves whether to freely pursue enemies or to break off pursuit and stick close to their station point. Can't tell how many times I've watched in helpless frustration as a lone recruit goes charging off toward the hundred-goblin siege force when I was explicitly ordering him to get around the fortified corner and wait there with the rest of my military to spring a surprise.
