I had a forgotten beast once show up in the caverns before I'd breached them.  I kept getting a "The Forgotten Beast is no longer enrage" announcement, and when I finally breached the cavern, it was badly crippled by a tribe of antpeople, one of which was still alive and repeatedly stabbing it with a blunt spear.

My military arrived soon after and finished them off.

Something similiar happended to me. I had breached the cavern and sealed it off, when the beast showed up and killed all but one antmen before fainting. A few seasons later i had a report with far more than hundred pages of the antmen stabbing the nearly dead beast until it finally deceased.

Forgotten beasts are strange creatures, they're either ridiculously easy to kill or virtually indestructible.

I do remember back in 40d that a dragon came by. He killed one dwarf, sheared off the lower half of another(a permanent invalid who also became mayor repeatedly). Then one of the wrestlers broke its neck. Then killed it. With his bear hands.
