Adventure embark
« on: October 30, 2010, 11:08:14 am »

I tried to search but found nothing.
The idea is quite simple: allow adventures to start a fortress. Once this happens you are brough to a screen where you can select how large your fortress area is going to be. Once you are done you start a fortress you can't select any new skills for your dwarfs or new items you have to bring everything yourself. You can bring companions in order to allow more dwarfs in your starting fortress. This might be a nice way to incorporate your adventurer in your new fortress.

This would also give you a strong sense of involved as preporation to an embark aswell as to allow the player to have a story behind the embark with minimal cost to toady time aswel!

Well, we'll be able to build our own little fortresses as adventurers in the relatively near future. This isn't exactly what you're talking about, but it's kind aclose.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

I think he means something like a Caravan Mode, like Oregon Trail, and at the end you reach the fortress site.

No what I mean is very simple: you start as an adventurer and do al things the average adventurer does. Some quests try to kill the local elfs ext. After you are done you decide that you want a fortress. So you recruit a bunch of companions (or take the once you already have with you) and collect a few items you want in your new fort. Then you embark(well you don't embark you already have to be at the site ext.).

Ofcourse this could quickly grow into a intergraded  caravan or oregon trail mode if you become capable of pulling wagons.
