Dwarfs seeking revenge
« on: September 26, 2010, 08:07:45 pm »

When one of their friends die they usually get very unhappy and stuff, but what if they seek revenge.

Like if Dwarf A kills Dwarf B which is Dwarf C's friend Next thing A and C meet, C will try to hurt or kill A.

Another example is if Dwarf B gets killed by goblins next time goblins attack Dwarf C will ignore going to a burrow you told everyone to go and attack the goblins head on trying to take a few of them down with him.

Thoughts?

This sounds great, maybe revenge could vary depending on how extreme it is.

So a dwarf insulting another dwarf for a large amount of time will make the dwarf tantrum but only start a fist fight with the insulter. If a hammerer hammers a friend to death the dwarf is likely to steal a +Steel axe+ from the barracks to kill the hammerer.

Sounds good to me.

Also, on a related note, when a noble has a grudge against another dwarf, they should occasionally have the other dwarf arrested on false charges...

Or if a god has a grudge against a dwarf, they should occasionally bring about a plague of biblical proportions or call upon their enemies to rise up against that dwarf with his or her blessing.  That would be SO Old Testament...  :D

It's like a tantrum spiral but faster.

And it can be solved with Magma. Like a tantrum spiral.

Or maybe there's a god who's just completely insane and sends you to Detroit, Michigan in a new body if you ever utter the name "Pat Sajak".

That can already happen. If a Dwarf attacks the Dwarven caravan, they become an enemy of the civilization. All the other Dwarves will attack dwarf 1. When they attack him, they become enemies to the civilization too. Then it is a Dwarven free for all.

The dev blog mentioned vengeful relations of those you killed or otherwise bother being part of the reputation features, but I'm not sure if that meant it may be applied to any given unit.

Isn't that what they call a "loyalty cascade"?

Ah, so you mean dwarves can take revenge on each other...
I at first was thinking more like if you (the player) misbehave, they start meeting secretly when you're not watching, then sabotage your projects, then make a peaceful pact with goblins so you won't have any fun. In the end they would launch a revolt and you'd have to threaten them with deleting the region folder.

Same thing.

Yes, they are known to conspire against the player...
