A Question about Seiges
« on: September 18, 2010, 04:14:11 pm »

Is there any way of triggering/knowing when a siege is going to happen(Like megabeasts attacking), or is it just a random thing that will happen eventually. Cause I haven't been playing very long and I really want to see how well I can handle one. If it's any help, I embarked in a haunted biome, but I'm not sure if that matters.

First you get thieves then snatchers, then ambushes and only then siege.
Besiegers come after your fortress grow up to somewhere 50 dwarves or so.
And number of goblins won't be huge at first, I bet a dozen of stone straps will scare them away.

There is a lot of randomness, I remember one time in particular where I had just saved a game and immediately afterward I got smashed by a huge siege party of about 40 goblins, all mounted ... and when I reloaded the saved game, I got attacked shortly after loading by a much more modest ambush team.
