Metal or Leather Archers?

Is there any pressing reason to use leather for archers over metal armor?

Heavy armour with little to no Armour Using skill might have some adverse effects to marksdwarfing, but IDK. Usually it's just good to kit them in dem good stuffs.

Style?  But in reality, no.  If you don't want your dwarves to get seriously injured, deck them out in metal.

Foolprooof way to penetrate aquifers of unlimited depth.  (Make sure to import at least 10 stones for mechanisms)
Toughen Dwarves by dropping stuff on them.  (Nothing too heavy though, and make sure to wear armor.)

The only disadvantage of using metal armor is that it'll slow them down due to lack of Armor User skill. If you can train your marksdwarves to be Legendary Armor Users (either using a Danger Room or by assigning them war hammers for a while so they can actually Spar), you can equip them in full steel armor and it won't slow them down at all.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.
