Chalk automatically allowed for construction
« on: March 10, 2008, 03:53:00 pm »

When I started in an area with chalk, it was automatically allowed for construction.  Because it is flux, it shouldn't be used for construction.

If you have a layer of an economic stone, it automatically enables the use of it, I guess under the assumption that you should have plenty of it.

I had thought that it was more under the assumption of "this might be the only stone you have available at first"  :)

But either way, yeah, I always seem to have whatever flux stone layer my site had (assuming I had one) enabled at start.

Nothing stopping you from turning it off under z -> stone?

It was listed as a feature in the devlog somewhere, so definetly not a bug.
Not having this would make playing with the stone selection hack rather frustrating.  :)

There needs to be an option to turn this off.

There is a way to turn it off, [z]->Stone->disable chalk.

Not everything needs a toggle. Some things are definetly beneficial. If this were turned off, you would have to do without stone until you hit something else in a limestone mountain, or make limestone useable manually. It doesn't force you to use the stone, as mentioned above.

Happened to me when the z-level first came out; I embarked on a mountain with tons of marble, but I couldn't figure out how to use it for a while until I explored the economic stone menu. If I remember right. Also, I abandoned that fortress before the next version even came out, because there were no trees nor water despite both being on the embark screen--it was the old tree line bug.
