Getting my games to work again.
« on: September 18, 2010, 01:21:49 pm »

After trying to get my system to reboot (unsuccessfully) I gave up and just reinstalled windows. All my games were saved, as they were on another partition. HOWEVER, they can't seem to run, which I guess is because of the fact that the registry files were wiped after the format and re-installation.

Is there any easy way to reinstall registry files without uninstalling and reinstalling all of my games?

I think you would have been better off loading your save files onto a CD or something if you still wanted them.

I don't care about the savegames. What I do care about is being able to start the games without telling me they don't exist. Even though they do.

Are you able to install them from their original copies? Assuming, of course, that you didn't pirate them. But if you did, then it's probably just an exercise in character building to have to work to get them back again.

It's possible that you won't be able to install because of the registry telling it that it already exists. If this happens, you want to delete the registry files, not create new ones.

This conflicts with the last sentence of your OP, but installing/reinstalling really is easier than changing registry files.

Damnation.

I was hoping for a quick and easy way to fix this, but by what you're saying, I'll have to reinstall my games. Grr.
