my most disturbing moment was, when a goblin crushed a baby`s skull.
with a morningstar/flail.

I think that might be one thing you could forgive the Goblins.  After all, it's probably difficult to tell dwarf babies from dwarf adults...I mean, the only difference is size, basically.  In the middle of battle, a dwarven kiddy is going to be just another small, bearded, alcohol-smelling body in the midst of 40 other similar ones.  Not to mention dwarf mother's habit of using their offspring as human shields...

This happened in 40d, a child went berserk after a failed mood and was chasing some legendary dwarf though the mines.  I was watching them run down a 1 tile wide path, and thought "It's just a kid, and he's insane.  You're legendary and have great stats, you could probably take him."  I didn't even say it out loud, I just thought it to myself, but as soon as I did, the dwarf being chased turned around.  He didn't even stop, one moment he's going towards the kid, the next he walking away from the corpse.

I have a serious cave blob problem at my fort, and a baby with 5 kills, it's mother keeps dropping it whenever the blobs come nearby, and then the baby bites the blob to death......

A baby... with 5 kills?  Note to self: Capture cave blobs for infant training program.

Maybe he was running away at first because the idea of killing that innocent was too much to bear, but finally he realized he had no choice...

A poor troll was horrifically mutilated by weapon traps, stumbled around, vomited for 5 combat-log pages, and slipped in and out of consciousness until dying slowly and painfully.

One of my military dorfs started running around and killing everybody right after his commander has succumbed to infection of last ambush's battle wound.
He had no 'Berserk', no tantrum, etc. He was just like me in adventure mode: slaughter the whole starting town and start wandering to the wilds :)

Whenever i read the "doesn't care about anything anymore" line, i instantly imagine a dwarf, sitting alone on a swing set. Just slowly rocking back and forth, somberly staring at the ground, and stopping every once in a while to sigh.
It's mildly depressing.

During a goblin ambush, a mother of two(legendary axedwarf/wrestler, squad captain) died, leaving two orphan children behind. I started to feel bad, so I booted up Runesmith. Turns out that messing with those tags is a very bad idea. I guess i'd messed with the undead tags, so even though i could still assign labors and such, she was treated as a skeletal dwarf. Her first task was to seek her infant. She picked it up. Then, she squeezed. There was a shower of blood. This woman proceeded to murder both of her children before being put down by her former squadmates.
