wild vs wild?
« on: September 14, 2010, 07:39:13 am »

Is there any way to make two wild animals fight against each other? Is it possible to place an alligator and an elephant in the same pit and have em duke it out to the death? I've got a giant cave spider facing off a crundle, but so far they seem pretty peaceful.

I think creatures from each ecosystem (surface, underground, HFS) are peaceful to denizens their own system and innately hostile to everything else.

I think animals are only hostile toward semi/megabeasts...aside from them, they're all in the same club & share the same hate towards all sentients.

Underground animals are hostile toward dwarves, so they may be hostile to surface animals too. I believe some Science is in order...

Knowing Toady, Wolves hunting animals for food and such will be implemented. I don't know about mod situation of df but there might be mod for this.  ::)

I am not sure about wild vs. wild but I do know civ vs. civ does not work.  A human siege (whose crossbowmen would not leave since their squad leader was in a cage) was followed immediately by a goblin siege, and they both had a party outside my gates.  It might have been the most disappointing Dwarf Fortress moment ever.

On the other hand, my unkillable "pet" bronze colossus from an earlier version was a resounding success.

Siege creatures will be hostile to everything originating from the map, which can lead to things like a seige horse giving birth, then killing the foals.
