No Goblin Siege

Hi all, new to the boards, but I had a question.  I'm in year 4 of my fortress, and I haven't seen a single goblin attack yet.  Also I'm only receiving caravans from the dwarves, but it seems like I should be getting human and elf caravans?  I'm in a temperate terrifying zone, but the worst I've seen so far is zombie deer?  Is this normal or did I do something wrong when I embarked?  Thanks!

The Goblins could have died out in world gen.

Press c to check out civilizations. If they're not there, either they're dead, or they haven't made themselves aware of your fort yet. Most likely you'll only see your dwarven civilization and an animalman tribe or two.

I looked at the historical maps in legends, and it seems I built my fortress on an island on the other side of the planet from all the other civilizations.  So will the other races sail over to me eventually or am I SOL?

Nevermind, stopped being lazy and looked at the wiki, looks like other races can't make it over.  Crap!

Before embarking, you probably want to look at the civilizations that can reach your embark site - hit tab and cycle through the views to see that.
