Best way of getting rid of a pet's owner?
« on: September 12, 2010, 09:52:43 pm »

So, in a recent migrant way, I got a child with a pet cat. I've heard what those little bastards do to your FPS (mine's almost dead anyways and I only got 30-something dudes). Since it's a pet, I can't butcher it or cage it. I assume killing the master would allow me to get rid of the cat as well. I have plenty of time (until another migrant wave brings a second cat at least). So what's a quick and effective way to murder a specific dwarf? It would also be nice if the murder contraption could be reusable for other animal lovers and annoying dorfs.

P.S. I just realized I'm asking how to murder a child just so I can then butcher his pet kitty. This game rules.

| = retracting spike
D = pet-impassable door
L = lever, linked to spike and restricted to be pulled only by the child
W = wall

Pull The Lever /R

Kills the pet, no need to worry about the kid.

Oh and another thing. I'm not sure if the kid's parents were in the migrant wave, but, if they were, would this get pissed if their child dies? Like, more pissed than the death of a regular dorf? If it's the same as a regular death, my legendary dining room with some mist from a waterfall can fix it, but if it's something bigger, I'd rather not have a tantrum.

Family deaths hurt mood more than friend deaths.

Well, it's only one kitten.
That's why we should use magma.

You should probably magma the whole fort, that one kitten might spread it's cutesy lies.

Magma or trap it in a room pull a lever that drops it down to the caverns either it dies on impact or it makes a tasty treat for the trogs

What I do is I cage all the cats that I can, and the ones that I can't I just let them roam freely performing their vermin-hunting services.  Every time a kitten is born, it's off to the cages with it!

Cat-control problems are largely obsolete myths based on older versions of the game, and will only come about through a lack of planning.  Cage your surplus animals, and you will have no problems.

Add the [AQUATIC] and [IMMOBILE_LAND] tags to the cat's raws.

That seems like a better idea, actually.
Unfortunately, as of right now, my fort has new pet regulations. All cats are considered a danger to society and are to be exterminated immediately. Their owners are traitors and criminals and must be killed as well. Also, the owners of any non-cat animals are to be killed as well since they take away potential meat/leather/bone/war animal and are therefore a hindrance to my fort's progress.
I think I should kill the kid's parents too. I mean, his illegal cat breeding roots gotta come from somewhere. I must make sure there isn't an underground (well, it technically already is...)animal lover club forming here.
