I want large carnivorous animals, and some forgotten beasts, to occasionally eat fresh corpses of things that they've killed.  Extremely large beasts might do so after a successful attack with their mouth as a part of combat.  Other creatures might do it once out of combat with no active targets or destinations.  Imagine a siege comes up and an unlucky dwarf is caught outside.  siegers get locked out while the dwarves put the finishing touches on the grand magma trap or whatever.  One of the sieger mounts chews up the corpse of the dead dwarf.  Loved one of dwarf gets a very uhappy thought.  The trap is finished and the siegers meet their demise.  The loved ones of the dwarf get a good thought at seeing vengeance done.

Now, if every single corpse from a lost battle got eaten, this would induce massive tantrum spirals, so a few adjustments might need to be made, but ideally creatures would devour the corpse only some of the time.  With the way grudges work now, and that dwarves already track the bodies of their loved ones, it could be a tag added to certain creatures, just like building destroyers.

Dwarves that lose a body part could also have it devoured, and they would remember that one bastard that ate his left pinky-toe.

sorry if this has been already posted recently.

While adding magma to anything will make it dwarfy, adding the word "magma" to your post does not necessarily make it funny.

I think all animals should have some sort of behaviors on the map, not just predators. Herbivores should eat, mate, and the like. Scavengers should scavenge, predators should hunt and ambush other animals. Behaviors now are very boring with animals just wandering around until their timer runs out and then the leave. I guess monkeys and racoons have some sort of flavor.

Predators could also claim land (like they do in nature), and fight / scare off other predators that walk through there.

Anything to make the animals more interesting really. I am moderately tittilated by the idea of vultures feasting on the corpses of dwarf 'FUN' victims, and the resulting bad thoughts this would create. But that isn't really a useful suggestion.

A more useful one would be, that animal behaviour would be somewhat logical and predictable, so that you could trap animals more effectively i.e. animals routinely gravitate to water sources, during certain times of the calender, depending on the biome, there were large scale exodus or arrival of animals to represent migrations etc. You could tie this in with animal predator behaviour, as well as Dwarf predator behaviour, just to make it interesting.
