Ability to dismiss followers (non-violently)
« on: September 12, 2010, 04:06:28 pm »

I didn't see this on dev page for Current Goals under "Your Followers" or find anything on the search function under "follower(s)", "companion(s)", or "comrade(s)".

Simply the ability to have someone leave your group of followers without them being killed or separated. Useful if you want to get a new member but still have the option of switching back to an old one (no Pokemon jokes, please), or just don't feel like using "rescued" child prisoners of goblins as meatshields or retiring so they'll just stay in some town. Assumably they'll do whatever it is they do if you get separated.

On a related note, followers who become hostile should automatically be dismissed or else they will continue to go with you in quick travel and (possibly) pathfind to you even if you are hiding.

Also, basic commands such as "stay here, and yell if you see anything", "throw stuff at the beat", and " Don't try to fight it" would be nice.

The learning curve of the df forums should be equal to that of df itself.

^They would, but Toady already has those as stated goals on the dev blog.

Quote
  • # Being able to issue orders to attack targets
    * It should depend, but orders to kill civilians, especially people they know, should result in various negative reactions, possibly including hostility and violence -- your behavior should cause these reactions as well
  • # Being able to issue orders to distract and lead off targets
  • # Being able to issue orders to stay at a site for general purposes (defense, caring for livestock, etc.)
*Depending on loyalty, they should not follow unreasonable orders for long (like guarding a random wilderness location)
