...and is one of the first of her kind.
« on: September 05, 2010, 05:19:53 pm »

On my most recent embark, I was viewing the personality pages of my dwarves, and found this little tag.

Thob Oslanan has been quite content lately.
She has the appearance of somebody that is seventy-seven years old, and is one of the first of her kind

*Italics for emphasis

On further examination, five of my seven starting dwarves had this character attribute.
As far as I can tell, there's nothing different about them, and I don't think that "has the appearance of somebody that is" shows up in the string dump.
I'm stumped.  Any ideas?

Did you stop world gen at the beginning of time? If so, they may have spawned at the very beginning, which may be what that means.

Or maybe there's a god who's just completely insane and sends you to Detroit, Michigan in a new body if you ever utter the name "Pat Sajak".

Are they older than they appear to be?

Because that may simply be good cosmetic products...

;D In all honesty though the only thing that I could think of would be that there are no other dwarfs in your genned world? That could be what the "first of their kind" may refer to, and it may cap at 5?

That line is used for any creature who was born before worldgen began. In this case, your world has less than 77 years of history accumulated.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Too bad you can't start up the gen again. Sort of a romantic idea to start the first Mountain Home. Er... dwarfmantic.

You might also notice that some engravings will be 'in a time before time'.
I have been stopping my worldgen at year 9. Means I get to found at year 10 and every dwarf is 'one of the first of their kind.' Despite appearing to be around 70-80.

I think ALL dwarves appear to be 70-80.
