I had the completely black-screen bug even after getting the unofficial patch. Solution I came up with is to install a new copy of the game somewhere else and copy the BMP folder. I have a BMPoriginal folder sitting in my game folder these days for quick-fixing the problem if it ever crops up again.

On another note: City take-overs become much easier if you let most enemies run red-army style into your machinegunner's line of fire.

I think the official unofficial fix is to make the BMP folder read-only.

Yeah, you'll need to do "cowardly" tactics if you want to survive with 4 mercenaries or so.

If you've played Take Over The Jungle Camp, you'll know what I mean.

More often than not I'm setting up in a building of some kind, waiting for the enemy to walk through the door. As soon as they stop pouring through, I can go outside and clear the rest of it without being overwhelmed.

A lot of games let you do this, and it always kills the game for me.

After you killed off one or two guys, the enemy should really be smart enough to lob some nades in and barricade the friggin door. I mean... there is a reason the stuff you described isnt a valid tactic in RL.

IIRC in JA2 the enemies wont properly smoke you out, either, but they will stop coming, wont they?

I did a lot of missions solo by being all cowardly. Hide somewhere, pre-aim at the spot where the enemy will come from and kapew, nearly instant shot when they popped up. Setting up mines and traps also worked pretty well. I think there's a screenshot where I set the trap at the enemy spawn.

Ahh, here it is. It's my version of catxplosion.

I know what you mean, and I find these town battles really tedious. I enjoy the smaller skirmishes a lot more, or clearing buildings with my team. Guy A opens door, guy B tosses a flash in (or F1 grenade, lolz), C and D run in with SMGs and shotguns. Bam bam, pew pew. Room clear.

Also, been there, done that.
