Urist McDeadButStillCapableOfDiscovering
« on: September 07, 2010, 10:56:14 am »

I am doing the one dwarf challenge, but after reclaiming my previous attempt discovered a second pick. I order someone from the third wave to channel-drop into the volcano. He discovers the magma sea AND two adamantine pillars.

It's probably made from baby bone, with a handle of baby leather. Probably uses the leg bones wound together for the handle, the pelvis for the handle/pick joint, and the pick is the spine.

But that's all in theory, of course. Not like I've made a pick out of my own 5 month old baby before.

That's one small step for dwarf, one giant leap for dwarfkind.

The same thing happened with 4 of my dwarves who got thrown into a volcano at the first frame of my first ever volcano embark, Magma kills slower in this version, so your dwarves actually stay alive until they make in to the bottom, and THEN they burn to death.

Urist McDiver: AHHHHHHH, IT BURNS! OH THE PAIN!
Urist McDiver: Oh, Armok, WHY?! IT BURNS! Oh, GOD, WHY?!
Urist McDiver: Ahhhhh... Oh... The Pain...
Urist McDiver: Well, this f***ing sucks...
Urist McDiver: Oh, look, Adamantine!
Urist McDiver has suffocated.

Throwing them into the magma sea directelly even lets them splat apart before burning up. The physics could use some work there I guess, though it is a marvelous overkill.

Actually, dwarves (and most anything else) are immune to temperature effects while falling, so he'd probably have plenty of time to notice all of that stuff while plummeting to the bottom. The lava would also cushion his fall, so he wouldn't even splatter from hitting the cave floor.
