Joysticks...
« on: September 19, 2010, 01:04:38 am »

I've got a couple of joysticks, one fairly old (early USB), the other really old (MIDI/gameport).

I'd really like to be able to use them together with my laptop... I guess I can find a gameport-to-USB adapter somewhere, haven't really looked yet...

But what I really want to be able to do is use them in conjunction with each other, but I don't think many (any) games let you use more than one controller at once...

Anyone know of a program that'd work around this? Create a virtual composite device or something?

The only game I know of that allows you to use more than one joystick is Flight Simulator (because people put together massive setups resembling a real cockpit). I think it's an issue with the game.

I would suggest the CH control manager, but I think that only works with their products.

I'm guessing joytokey can also do something like that, but I've yet to use it myself.

I'd be rather surprised to find a real cockpit where the pilot is given more than one control column (joystick).

Well, you do have two sticks to work with in a helicopter, though the collective is more a lever than a stick, though it does usually have the thrust control on there as well. Some hovercraft can have dual joysticks as controls, and some tugs that have vectored "thrust" also use that system. Some arcades use that as well, most notably (for me, at least) Cyber Troopers: Virtual-On.

I mean they set up a yoke, pedals, throttle, and a million buttons, all of which are considered basically the same thing in the eyes of the game.
