You could create an animal stockpile and all of the caged and cages would go there, then just make a pit outside (1 tile away) and pit those punks.

Make them tamable, tame them, and then butcher them. Makes the whole ordeal much neater.

I just thought of this, does something need to be tame to detect ambushers? if not you could chain them up at your entrances, since you won't really care if they get gapped by ambushers, thieves, snatchers, invaders, whatever...

Wild animals won't detect ambushers.

You sure? I could have sworn a demikraken detected an ambush for me once. It was a zombie, so there's no way it could have been tame.

Either way, they would make poor ambush detectors, as they could interrupt work. Considering the role of ambush detector can be fulfilled by any tame animal (groundhogs, kittens, other useless ones), using dark gnomes for that seems unnecessary.

Picture a dwarf, warrior, mechanic, or some other incredibly useful profession. Now picture him dead. That's what infections do.

But the idea of chaining up really short people in front of your fort full of short people is... just great.

maybe you should lock them into a room with a stockpile full of gnomeblight and then release them from their cages?

Here is how you must do it:

1. Build the cage in a sealable room, then link it to a lever.
2. Using a garbage dump activity zone, place one or more barrels of gnomeblight on top of the cage.
3. Forbid all of the gnomeblight, but not the barrel(s) themselves.
4. Wait until a caravan arrives.
5. Order the gnomeblight barrel(s) to be taken to the depot. Since the gnomeblight itself is forbidden, it will be dumped onto the floor.
6. Seal the room and pull the lever.
7. Watch the dark gnomes walk around in the pool of gnomeblight and slowly dissolve.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Cacame McTrader: What are those screams coming from that room over there?
Urist McBroker: Oh, just some gnomes.
