A Dwarf Fortress Film?
« on: August 29, 2010, 07:50:54 pm »

Recently I read the epic story of Boatmurdered for the umpteenth time and I couldn't help but think that the rise and fall of Boatmurdered would make a good motion picture. Just as a disclaimer; I'm not saying I, or anyone I know, will make it. I'm just asking here because it seems like the kind of thing you guys'd pick up on!  :D Any suggestions?

It would make a good trash movie, yes. Evil Dead comes to mind, its definition of fun does correlate with Dwarf Fortress for me.

Gah.  :'( Though I must point out that my idea was closer to a Lord of the Rings (as created by Peter Jackson) kind of thing, rather than an animation.

More like Braindead. This has the advantage of being a Peter Jackson movie, too.

I think animation would be pretty great actually, if it were a good style, maybe something like the style in Bronzemurdered.

That reminds me, didn't some Australian gaming magazine have a multi-page comic about DF that was supposed to be available online after a while? Is that up yet?

Here is how I think a DF movie series would go:
Movie one : Metal Smith's son goes on an adventure to kill (SEMI-MEGABEAST) and is rewarded with a special gem.
Movie two: Metal Smith gets a mood, and uses the gem to make a sword. The adventurer goes on a quest to kill (MEGABEAST). He grows such a large fallowing that they begin the construction of a fort.
Movie three : The fort. Going from a mountain, to something fully operational. Several wars, and FUN. The adventurer becomes king.
Movie Four :

Forget the movies, Dwarf Fortress would make a much better series. Rated +18 and in the comedy section.

No, it would be in the children's section, advertised an education program. ALL CHILDREN SHALL PLAY THE DWARF FORTRESS.
