Don't even know what to make of this...
« on: September 23, 2007, 04:23:00 pm »

Should children be able to get possessed and craft turtle shell greaves?  Because that happened in my fortress.  DwarvenTaskmaster.exe reveals that the kid just had  Grower skill.

Children get moods once in a while.  They're really just like normal dwarves, the only difference is that you can't control them at all until they officially become adults.

Peasants can be affected by strange moods too.

In these cases, they just pick a random craft skill.

Most of the time they go crafting or weaving and they get farm experience.

Masons sometimes get mining xp tho.

So, can soldiers or dwarves assigned to the fortress or royal guard duty get moods?

I already prime my haulers with novice level in weaponsmith, armorsmith, x-bow making, or siege engineering before i restrict them to hauling duties, that way if they get a mood, I get a useful skill out of it...

Do I need to prime my military as well?

According to the wiki, soldiers can get moods, yes :
"Active soldiers can enter a strange mood if they have any trade skills from before they were conscripted. A soldier will be removed from his or her squad during the course of a mood and returned to it upon successful completion of an artifact."
