Stray Mctamehorse has given birth!
« on: August 18, 2010, 10:13:28 am »

So, my horse gave birth, without another horse to impregnate it and before the first caravan.

The only thing i can think of is that there were wild horses on the map some time ago, but at no point did the two come in contact.

Immaculate conception?

This is 40d btw.

In DF, everything breeds via spores. Male horse arrives, releases spores, female horse becomes pregnant. Same applies to your dwarfs.

Gotcha, was wondering how the hell that happened.

So wild animals can impregnate tame ones?

Yes. If you have a mare chained a hundred z-levels below the surface, a passing group of male horses can impregnate it.

So THAT is why all those animals keep coming up to my fortress.

I think animals can come onto the map pregnant, as well, but I'm not sure of that.
