tips for reclaim embark?

I've never really done any dwarf to goblin warfare before. I always used traps and such. Now, im trying to reclaim a fortress, so i really dont have a choice. i tried a few times, but i keep getting massacred on the first goblin. tips?

actually, none of them are hostile, so im just ignoring them instead of attacking, haha

You embarked on a goblin village and they are not hostile to you?  Is that what happened?
