Unexplained corpses in adventure mode
« on: August 13, 2010, 06:44:44 am »

I began a new human adventurer (under the name Bob Whoreanus) and began to explore a human town. I was searching the houses for anything good to loot - as you do - and came across several dead bodies and their belongings. I began to ask around (after a fair bit of robbing the dead) and couldn't get a reason for why there were so many fresh corpses in their houses. Is there an in-game reason for this, or are the humans just too lazy to have graveyards, tombs, or the good ol' magma pipe?

There must have been an enemy or an insane person in their town, that's what I always say to myself when I find corpses.

I've been searching around the town but I can't find any trace of any insane person, or, curiously, the fiend which I have been hired to kill which is apparently living in the town.

I have seen fiends randomly attack people before, one time I saw a fiend stand over somebody who had massive injuries and was bleeding.Even friendly fiends.

That's happened to me before too, but I'm wondering why some people survived - including those with little to no combat skills - and others, who you might expect to live, died; and then the fiend vanishes. I've scoured the town looking for him. Could he be in one of the adjacent maps?

Well there is a largly random combat system which means that people who you expect to survive die and in reverse it is all in randomness. And if I'm correct creatures can easily cross boundries but I'm more of a fort mode person (this is perhaps the wrong forum section)

Usually around various demons/dragons/megabeasts/whatever there will be some assorted trinkets on the ground and sometimes also some corpses.

Also, a spoiler regarding the monster you're fighting:

It must have been a demon who has a breath attack that can induce melting by making *insert thingy here* extremely hot.

Sometimes megabeasts/semimegabeasts attack towns, kill a few people/destroy a home/steal a sock and go back to their caves.

I found a house with one living inhabitant and one dead one.  After some questioning, the living inhabitant confirmed that the deceased was in fact his wife, who had died of old age.

The fact that they don't bury or even move the corpses (and their items) does seem like an oversight, though.  Not really a bug, just more of a feature that needs to be added.
