A good way to make and upload large amounts screenshots
« on: August 10, 2010, 11:30:15 am »

As the topic title says, I'm looking for an easier way to make and upload large quantities of DF screenshots than saving them one by one with MSpaint and then individually uploading them to imageshack. I tried fraps and xfire but neither of them even acknowledge the existence of DF.

Edit: Typo.

Go into the menu that pops up when you hit 'Escape'.  Scroll down to "Export Local Image".  Select the floors you want turned into images in your DF root directory, and then hit "e".  Enjoy.

That only gives me a few large images of the entire map, what I need is a method for making multiple pictures of battles and such without having to alt tab to paint, paste, save and tab back, as well as something that lets me upload then en masse instead of individually.

For uploading en masse, I've been more or less satisfied setting up a Picasa account.  That lets you store your images on your hard drive, and synchronize those on the internet with that local store.  1 gig of space free.  I don't remember if it forces images to be jpeg (since it seems to focus heavily on photos).  If so, that could obviously be a problem; I hate jpeg artifacts on non-photos.

You can use dropbox instead of picasa if you like, also most image hosting sites allow you to upload multiple files at a time.

Fraps can be set to take a screenshot every X seconds.

But then, life was also easier when I was running around here pretending to be a man, so I guess I should just "man up" and get back to work.

Irfanview + Dropbox.

Irfanview is the ultimate image viewer/screen cap program.

Dropbox is the ultimate webhost.

Simply have Irfanview save screenshots to your public Dropbox folder, and bam.

As a side note, even if you don't want/need to create large numbers of screenshots, I still highly recommend both of these. They are by far the best utilities in their respective classes, bar none, and they're free.

Imgur, pronounced Image-er, is perfect. Mass uploading with a simple ctrl-click, and no questions asked. No sign-ups either.
