Urist McStupid slept without a proper room recently
« on: August 08, 2010, 03:38:55 pm »

Why are my silly dwarves complaining about sleeping without a propper room or on the ground, when everyone owns a room, perfectly equiped with bed, cabinet and coffer?
I just found a dwarf having a nap in the meeting hall, blocking a chair, while his room is just one level and about 20 dwarfen steps away. But best of all: The dwarf sleeping on the ground just in front of his room. Argh!

Because he's an idiot.

My dwarves do the same thing. I have a big dorm with more beds than dwarves and some choose to sleep on the damn ground.

In the current version dwarves will continue working even while tired.  When they are finally tired enough to stop working, they're so tired they just grab the nearest bed to sleep in. It's pretty much a bug at the moment, hopefully will be fixed soon.

Perhaps not with actual working, but you can have your soldiers go to sleep on a regularly, stopping them from training so hard they just pass out on the floor...But its not like that matters, seeing as my soldiers at least train 3 steps from there beds

So there's nothing we can do, except hoping there will be a patch installing brain to our dwarves?

You can order military dwarves to go to bed? How, via schedule?

Also note that any dwarf with the Hunting labor enabled will sleep wherever he happens to be.  For example, right in the Butcher's workshop, after returning a kill.

Or in the field, promptly getting mauled by lions.

To make it doubly a bug.. as far as I can tell they completely ignore your tile travel cost designations when determining the closest bed. They'd rather move through 30 squares of restricted travel zone than 31 of high traffic travel zone.

The travel cost designation only determine HOW to get to a spot, not WHICH one to use. :)  The WHICH is simply the closest radially away in 3 dimensions.
