Military Dwarves won't train

Just as it says in the topic, they refuse to train, they just sit around outside where their last order to kill a kobold was and do nothing. I ahve a barracks, I have training weapons for all of them, and yet nothing. Any suggestions?

You need to cancel the kill order. It's a bit screwy.

Thats already been done. Other approaches I tried include making the squad into two smaller squads, and ensuring they were all fully equipped and not asked to carry any food or water. No training.

Did you set the barracks to train? Press Q over the bed and see if you set the squad to train.
