cosmology

in the dwarf talk 8, toady mentioned some large scale world types, like a world map built into a tourus, or the effects of fluctuating gravities. this is interesting in the sort of way multiple dimensions is. depending on the cosmological origins of a worldgen, the world could operate in different ways. for example-

disc world - a flat world with edges that simply fall off into space, supported by massive elephants on a turtle.

coin world - a double sided flat world. when the dwarfs dig deep enough, gravity bizarrely shoots them to the ceiling, where if they want to continue they dig upwards.

many teired flat world - sort of what dwarf fortress is now, where there's the mortal world on the surface, forgotten realms in the caverns, and hell far below.

realitistic world - where celestial objects are round, orbit sun and stars, have gravity. could be fun if dorfs build space ships, for star craft mods, or kim stanley robinson mods where you take 100 dwarfs and shoot them through space to terraform mars.

what is most interesting to me once to accept the more fantastic worlds is also adding those gods into the world gen. if you defeat a certain warlord, perhaps the sun will stop rising. if you defeat the ruler of hades, you inherit the throne and rule over the skeleton people.

just some rambling thoughts, apologies if the gist of this exists everywhere and has been chatted to death.
