Seiges taking a long time.
« on: August 02, 2010, 05:58:43 pm »

 :-\

A gobbo seige is happening right now. It's been happening for a few seasons. You might think I'm complaining they're waiting outside my fort for me to come out, but that's not the case. It's been around 2 or three seasons, and they're now about halfway to my fort, and about 3/4 to the way where I'll have to keep my dwarves inside.

Anyone else have any slow seiges?

I just want them to get to my fort, step in some cage traps, and have my military finish the rest.

You want fast sieges? Build your entrance in a corner, near a couple of edges. Then they'll charge over as fast as they can, and it won't usually take long.

My biggest problem in your described conditions is getting ambushed. You think everything is safe, keeping an eye on the main force, and suddenly--- trouble! Dwarves panicking, dieing, going into tantrum spirals... Oh well, if you play dwarf fortress long enough, you are bound to have FUN.

What is this, a therapy session? We don't need to console someone because they're upset about a fucking video game. Grow a beard, son, and take off those elf ears!

Goblin McMeatshield: "Boss, I don't think marching to lay siege to a settlement miles away in heavy armor was a bright idea.  Where's our food or water?  Why didn't we get a wagon to carry these things for us?"
Goblin McFurious: "Silence you!  Nobody questions the decision of our demon overlord!  March and bring back much plunder!"
Goblin McSkeptical: "I dunno, the last guys we sent here never came back..."

If you accidentally lock the elves in the depot and wait until they're insane to capture them in cages and then lock the next group of elves in the depot and unleash the insane elves from their cages, that's still somehow your fault.

I should have checked. When they were about 3/4 to my actual fort, which took about 3 or 4 seasons, they randomly dissapeared. I looked at the top and the seige icon dissapeared.
