How to tell if a civilization is dead?
« on: July 30, 2010, 06:39:46 pm »

I didn't get a human trade caravan this year, though it's only my second year I should still get one. Before I embarked I made sure they were on the neighbours list and my civ wasn't at war with them, but they still haven't turned up. Is there any way to check if their civ has been wiped out?

Other than checking out legends, I don't think so.

I had some problems with the human caravans not showing up in 40D (I finally found out that it was suppoused to be a bug, but .31 was getting released soon at that time, so I just let it be) and someone posted up a bug report of the humans not showing up either.

I don't have a clue what was going on in 40D for me, but at least I know now that they are suppoused to come during the second, maybe third year, depending on distance.

I'll give them another couple years and see what happens, I guess. Can I access the legends without abandoning the fortress?

I wouldn't panic just yet. I think I've had them come later years in several forts post-40d.

You don't have to abandon the particular instance you're playing. Just copy&paste the region folder you want to look at, rename it so you don't get confused, then go to that save and abandon it. That way the fort you're playing is safe and its just a fort in a parallel 'universe' that you're abandoning.
