Bit of a Badass
« on: July 26, 2010, 10:18:49 am »

I recently had an axedwarf get his arm bitten off by a spider titan.   He just shrugs it off and keeps going.  I let him keep doing his thing and he gets a mood, wants a shell.  DOOMED.
Poor bugger goes insane still in his full combat kit and goes straight back to training.

   Love the dedication.

 That's .. individual training, right?

If so then it's bugged. I had to remake my barracks and forbid individual training because all dwarves would just hang out there not actually doing anything .. even though i ordered them to take care of goblin ambushers.

Dunno, he went and lined up with the rest of them at station for the annual running of the prisoners too.
He then refused to move from station and just watched everybody else during the festivities.

Oh, and he is going to die of hunger and thirst.

I had a dwarf lose an arm while fighting a pack of dralthas early on. He still managed to kill a few forgotten beasts before I noticed his injury and retired him to mining. Now he's a one-armed legendary miner who can dig with the best of them.

Don't think of it as losing an arm as much as gaining a spot to mount a permanent prosthetic pick appendage.

In previous versions, insane dwarves would still try to train, but the task would immediately abort - I've seen both "Urist Borushdumat, Axedwarf cancels Sparring in Barracks: Too insane" and "Datan Ekurkeskal, Marksdwarf cancels Shooting at Archery Range: Too insane" show up in 40d (though with different names, of course - bonus points if you recognize the names used here).

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Thats pretty much what was happening, he stripped down to just his armor and kept spamming the cant train: too insane messages until he died of thirst.

I've had a dwarf get into a mood and kill my entire military and then go down the the hospital and murder all of the sick dwarfs. I was trying to recover from two goblin ambushes and alligators getting into my fortress...

Thats what I was worried would happen.  He was in a squad of 10 so all the lads were stationed around him, sitting there in full plate yammering for shells while holding his sword and shield with one hand.
He was one arm down but the other was holding a masterwork sword and shield.  How much does crazy count for?
