Removing Vampires from an existing game
« on: February 24, 2012, 07:31:51 pm »

I've just started a new game(1st day) and looking to remove vampires from any future migrating dwarves.  Mainly because I'm still relatively new to the game and would like to focus more on learning the game then dealing with locating/managing vampires.

Does a method exist for neutralizing or removing vampires?   I've done a dozen searches yet no luck.

As far as I know there is no way to do so without starting a new world.

I find it funny that until now, no one (including myself) stopped to consider the absurdity of a submarine in which the crew cabin is filled with water and the crew is drowning when everything is working properly.

You'd have to delete the interaction_vampire in the interactions folder, but you'd need to create a new world.

You can also set vampire curses to 0 in adv worldgen, but still this requires genning a new world.
Alternatively, if you don't mind metagaming -

Sure, nobody recommended a sword. That's what I use.

I prefer magma when available. But if it's not, then I usually use a sword, too. I find decapitation and bisection work best, they're pretty stubborn otherwise.

Give him a sword, post him outside, seal the entrance.  They make perfect sentries.

I'm just trying to stay more focused learning other pieces of the game.

How can I reduce the number of aquifers in the adv world generation settings?   My last map was loaded with aquifers.

You'd have to delete the interaction_vampire in the interactions folder, but you'd need to create a new world.

It's worth noting that the interactions folder is just a sample folder. The files in it are not actually used by the game to add content, and therefore removing them will have no effect whatsoever on the number of vampires in the world.
The only way to remove the vampires is, as others have said, by generating a world with the number of vampiric curses set to 0.

This works before or after you generate a world(just need to hit Start Playing once you do this thing so it loads the changes).

Go to your raw/objects folder, search the stone and soil txt files for [AQUIFER] tags. Remove 'em. ???? Enjoy your aquifer-free world.
