Newbie questions about tilesets...
« on: July 23, 2010, 11:17:41 pm »

So I've just started messing with the custom tilesets on the wiki...

I figured out how to modify the init files to use the new tilesets I've downloaded. But the colors are all screwed up. It appears the pink background of the .png is showing through. Is there something else I need to modify in the init files to fix the colors?

Also... the game really just uses a .png picture for all the 'graphics'?

So customizing a tile set is as easy as editing the .png file in ms paint?

Thanks!

I had this problem, I fixed it by changing the files from .png to .bmp. You'll have to change the entries that call for them, otherwise they'll keep looking for .png's that aren't there.

Apparently having a redundant creature entry causes the game to say, "Oh, look, it's crazy world now. Nothing makes sense! Alligators live in houses!"

In your DF\data\init folder there is a file called colors.txt where you can change the palette.

And yes, all the graphics are that easily editable :)

Also; you can do some funky things with the alpha channel.
