Water for Fort right about magma *spoilers?*
« on: July 23, 2010, 05:22:07 pm »

so I currently have a fort on surface level. I am in the process of moving it right above / next to magma level for easy forging.

I was wondering if I channel down to a layer below my fort and make a lake, and then remove the floor on the level above... will it flood my fort? will water pressure force the water up into my fort that is 135 levels below?

Depends where you're getting your water from and where it's going? If you dug a pit under a river, then probably. If you have enough outflow from wherever the water's coming from, then probably not. ... saving beforehand and then trying it out might be your best bet.

i'm planning on channeling down a few levels then digging about 35-45 tiles over to where my channels down the 130ish levels at that point will be. Its coming from a river.

If it's attached to a river then probably yes. Just put it through a pump at the bottom to depressurise it.

That would be as deadly to the wielder as to anyone else!  You'd sever your own arm at the first swing!  It's perfect!

do pumps need a continous power source? or will the run forever without power?

Make a diagonal leak to depressurize. No pump required
